This whipped Feta with honey has a perfectly smooth texture and well balanced sweet and savory flavor.
Making it is as simple as child’s play and requires only six basic ingredients.
You can serve it along with some grilled vegetables, crackers or some pita bread.
Creamy Whipped Feta with Honey Dip Recipe
Whipped Feta cheese with honey is a yogurt based dip that’s traditionally served in the Southern parts of the Balkans.
It’s usually made with a mixture of white cheese, yogurt, honey, walnuts, some seasonings and a bit of garlic.
This recipe doesn’t stray far from this formula, but it’s made without any garlic.
In my opinion, garlic can overpower the flavor of the other ingredients so I play it safe and skip it.
Another thing that’s worth pointing out is that you can make this recipe with Bulgarian white brine cheese or any other type of white brine cheese with a firmer texture.
Ingredients
- Feta cheese – This recipe is traditionally prepared with Feta cheese, but you can also use any type of white cheese that has a low sodium content and a firmer texture.
- Greek Yogurt – You’ll need half a cup of whole fat Greek yogurt. The yogurt should have a fat content of about 10%.
- Olive oil – A drizzle of olive oil will greatly improve the texture and enrich the overall flavor.
- Walnuts – You’ll need a quarter cup of chopped walnuts which you’ll use to sprinkle on top.
- Honey – It’s best to use homemade honey or organic honey which has a runny texture.
- Seasonings – This dish is seasoned with a mix of dried oregano, dried basil and coarsely ground black pepper.
How to Make
Check out the recipe card at the end of this article for detailed, step-by-step instructions.
Start by blending the Greek yogurt, Feta cheese and olive oil with a hand blender or a food processor.
Sprinkle in the dried oregano and basil, then blend the mixture for a few seconds so the spices get incorporated into the mixture.
Place the yogurt mixture in a bowl and run the back of a spoon on top to create a spiral shaped groove.
Pour the honey into the groove and garnish with the chopped walnuts and coarse ground black pepper.
Finish by serving the whipped feta with some crackers or pita bread.
Storage
Whipped Feta cheese with honey will last up to five days when stored in the fridge.
It’s best to keep it in an airtight container to prevent it from drying out and prolong its shelf life.
You can also stash it in your freezer and keep it there for as long as three months if you’ve made a larger batch.
